summer
Oh the JOY of MidSummer! …A perfect blue sky and breeze rustling the leaves…the trees and grass in full growth, lush and full of LIFE!

The word *Solstice* literally means, “standing still”…The sun ceases its northward arc, and then will eventually begin to move southward on the horizon as we swing back to Equinox. It is a magical moment, like those few seconds of lightness at the arc of a swing, where flight seems almost natural, inevitable… That fullness embodies the height of summer and the fullness surrounding us. On the Medicine Wheel, the South, Summer & Fire represent – Nurturing, Joy, and Fullness. This is the time to revel in what fills you up, makes you shine your brightest, what sparks your Heart’s desire. Creative energies are at their peak, bursting with possibility.

While sitting in my yard yesterday, feeling the breeze and sunlight wash over me…listening to the sounds of nature, breathing in the smells of grass and flower, looking at the myriad of shades of GREEN that abound as nature grows, I thought about the difference between the seasons as they reveal themselves. Its one thing to feel that excitement seeing the first shoots of life in the Spring…quite another to realize those shoots are now waist high grass! (This makes my cat think he is a tiger hiding in the jungle, hunting grasshoppers.)

There is still some time before the harvest, and our lesson until then is to continue to cultivate our inner garden. We get to fertilize and care for that which we choose to nurture in our lives, while weeding out false beliefs, actions, or people who do not serve our Hearts and ourselves.

Meanwhile – Recognize the “arc” that this point on the year-wheel gives us and revel in the fullness, the bursting forth of life, the joy that Mother Earth feels as she does what she does best. Let your own petals unfurl in the Summer sun!

Welcome MidSummer ~ A Dream within a Dream

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.” ~ Oscar Wilde
So here we are, perched on the cusp of Midsummer, with the June Full Moon upon us already. Last night She was so bright, I could have walked the dog without a flashlight!

This month we also entered into two retrogrades: Mercury from June 7th – July 15th in Cancer, and Neptune from June 9th – November 15th in Pisces. Now we all *think* we know that Mercury Rx means don’t sign anything, buy electronics, expect communications to glitch, etc. However, without being hung up on those static beliefs, let us just take a step back and allow for the big picture to shine through. Mercury is retrograde in the emotional Cancer, just before the Sun enters in July. This period is like a cosmic time out of sorts – a time to allow for distractions and glitches, to use them to reveal our Truth and our heart's desire. By allowing the next step to show up, rather than force what doesn’t work, we can *receive* the next Right Action to take…rather than DO-ing the next thing we think we should.

Neptune adds something special to this receptive time as well. The deep waters of intuition are at work here, and the currents go even deeper into our subconscious and supra conscious because of the retrograde flow. Think of reception, receiving, dreams, guidance. ..The picture in my mind is that of the silver platter filled with spring water and gazed upon under the light of the full Moon.  While all this dreaminess is fine and well when we are in meditation, sleep, or prayer – it can be a bit edgy to walk through in the “real world.”

So if you catch yourself in a brain fog, overwhelmed by what to DO next, or dealing with emotional communication breakdown – Take a step back and go into the Left-brain. Dance, drum, color, listen to music, meditate, pray, write a gratitude journal, keep a poetry or dream journal… All of these activities take the masculine/ego out of the equation. While in that receptive place, the next action will reveal itself and flow easily from your Heart.
(It *just* happened to me as I was preparing to write this blog. I got too wrapped up in detail and distraction, so I printed out a mandala and put on music and colored for a while. As I did, the words began to come and the next step flowed with ease, and here we are.)
